How to compress a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF into the box above.
  2. Choose a compression level. Balanced works for most files.
  3. Press Compress PDF and save the smaller file.

PaperSwoop redraws each page as a compressed image. This works especially well on scanned documents and PDFs full of photos, often cutting the size by more than half. The trade-off is that text in the compressed file can't be selected or searched, so keep your original too.

Questions

Why didn't my file get smaller?

PDFs that are mostly plain text are usually small already. PaperSwoop won't hand you a bigger file, and tells you instead.

Which setting should I pick?

Balanced suits most files. Choose Smallest file for strict upload limits, or Better quality when the document has small print.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. PaperSwoop reads your files with your browser and builds the result on your device. You can even turn off your internet after the page loads and it still works.
